New to Church?

Coming to church might be daunting if you have not been before or if you have not been for some time. We want our welcome to help you take part.

When do you meet?

Our Sunday services are generally at 10.30am and 6.30pm. Please visit our services page for more information on particular dates.

How do I get there?

See our Find us page to get map and directions.

What happens when I get there?

You will be welcomed, given any sheets you need for the service, and invited to take a seat wherever you like. There are all ages at St George’s so you are unlikely to feel out of place here!

During the service we will sing, read the Bible, pray, hear a talk. We aim to use a mix of songs; the best of the new as well as the best of the old. Feel free to join in with what you feel comfortable with. The talk or sermon will help us understand the Bible passage and see what it means for those who follow Jesus Christ today. After the service, tea and coffee is served at the back of church. This is also chance to get to know people and have a chat so please stick around so we can make you welcome.

Is there anything for my children?

Yes, they are very welcome. We have lots of families and a range of children’s groups for 0-14s run during the 10.30am service. Our teenagers meet on Sunday evening. All of our children's workers fully CRB checked. Once a month we all join together for a shorter Family Service.

Will I be asked to give money?

Not if you don’t want to! The collection is an opportunity primarily for regular members to give to the work of the church, if they do not already do so by standing order.

Where do I go if I need the toilet?

There is a toilet at the back of church if you need it. A disabled toilet is available in the Parish Centre nearby.

What about Christianity?

It doesn’t matter how much or how little knowledge you have about Christianity. We try to make our services easy to understand and are always willing to help with questions you may have. We may well have wrestled with the same issue at some point.

We hope this explains what church is like. Do come along; we would love to see you! If you are still nervous please get in touch and we can arrange for someone to show you around.
